Art in After School
Providing After-School Staff with Tools to Teach Art
The arts are a key part of a well-rounded after-school program. MOCHA’s Art in After-school Professional Development Program guides after-school staff in the use of the visual arts to enhance students’ engagement, academic skills, creativity, self-confidence and individual expression. Our training is specifically designed for educators working in after-school settings and includes a hands-on art curriculum that supports learning across subject areas.
participants will receive:
- A rich visual art curriculum including 35 lessons, with extensions for easy adaptability to different ages and grade levels. Designed for non-specialists, the lessons are easy to read and include visual directions and full-color examples of students work. Lessons use inexpensive, recycled and easily accessible materials.
- 8 hours of arts-based professional development workshops
- 4 classroom visits from a MOCHA Teaching Artist to model art lessons and coach staff
- Techniques for managing art materials in an afterschool setting
- Ongoing support from MOCHA staff
goals of the program:
- Build your program’s capacity, enabling educators with little art experience to incorporate the visual arts into their after-school programs
- Offer training, professional development and support for after-school personnel to develop their arts teaching skills in ways that extend and reinforce school-day learning
- Provide solid standards-based arts curriculum, easily adapted to your program’s needs
cost
$1600 per person (includes training, modeling, 35-lesson curriculum and ongoing support )
