The Art in Open Court
Linking visual art to the Open Court reading curriculum
MOCHA’s visual art curriculum, The Art in Open Court: Making Connections, complements and reinforces lessons in the Open Court reading program used in several East Bay school districts. The Art in Open Court may also be used as a stand-alone visual art curriculum.
MOCHA also offers a coaching/mentoring component to this program, through which teachers receive year-long training in applying The Art in Open Court curriculum. The training can be offered throughout a school district or at individual school sites. Training can be tailored to a district or school site’s needs, but typically entails:
- A five-day, intensive hands-on arts workshop focusing on the basics of integrating visual art into the classroom and across the curriculum
- Demonstrations and model lessons with a professional MOCHA teaching artist in each participating teacher’s classroom
- Guidance from a professional MOCHA teaching artist on documentation of student work in a way that invites reflection among students and teachers
- Meetings with fellow participants to share ideas
Curricula for Grades K–5 are currently available. Please contact us to schedule a training for your school or district.
