Once Upon A Time Spring Benefit
April 12 | 5:30-9 p.m.

Join us in MOCHA’s gallery and courtyard to
sample food from local restaurants and wineries,
bid on original works of art, and mingle with the
MOCHA community, all while supporting our
programs in the museum, the schools and the
community. The evening will feature live music by
the Zimbabwean Marimba Ensemble, comprised of
youth musicians from the Oakland Public
Conservatory of Music led by master artist Ronnie
Daliyo, and a sonic excursion courtesy of local
artist and MOCHA dad, Heco with his 78s.

Our popular annual exhibit features the current
work of children’s book illustrators alongside
works created by the artists when they were

Kids Paint the Town
Through April 30
College Avenue from Broadway to Russell

Kids’ art takes to the street! During the month
of April, College Avenue merchants are displaying
over 200 pieces of artwork created by local young
people. The artworks show a variety of
techniques, including printmaking, collage and
painting, to express the theme “Spring into Life.”

SATURDAY STORIES
Bloom by Maria van Lieshout
April 5, 1–2pm
FREE
The first Saturday of each month MOCHA links
literacy with art-making. First, we’ll read a
story out loud, then we’ll engage in fun and
educational art activities connected to the theme
of the story. This month, meet author/illustrator
Maria van Lieshout and hear her read her saga
about a pig in love. After the story, make a
piglet of your own. Stay for the Once Upon a
Time exhibit reception and meet more authors and illustrators!

Saturday Stories are sponsored by Target.

FAMILY EXTRAVAGANZA
Pop-Up Engineering
April 26 | 1–4pm | $7/child

Meet paper engineer Ray Marshall, designer of The
Castaway Pirates: A Pop-Up Tale of Bad Luck,
Sharp Teeth, and Stinky Toes. Learn the artistry
of the pop-up book and create your own 3D stories.
