HOOD GAMES
SPECIAL EVENT
october 14 | 11am-4pm | FREE
Come celebrate youth culture from the streets of Oakland! Geared
toward kids ages 8-16, Hood Games will feature two blocks of
skateboard events on 9th Street in front of MOCHA. Youth will see how
to assemble skateboards from the ground up and learn basic skateboard
moves from Bay Area professional skateboarders. MOCHA artists will
lead art activities for the younger set in a special Kids’ Zone.
Don’t forget to stop by MOCHA’s gallery for the Dadaism and
Surrealism exhibit reception (see below)!
EXHIBITION
Dadaism and Surrealism: An Exploration of Self Discovery
Art by children from the Children’s Shelter of Santa Clara
September 8 - October 28
Visit the Dada House, a building with only one function – art. Many
of the residents have described the Children’s Shelter as the only
place they have felt at home. This Dada house, created by residents,
is a positive symbol of home and safety. Within the brushstrokes and
designs are the creative marks of many courageous, resilient young
lives. Woven within the artwork are the children’s stories.
Reception
October 14 | 2-4pm
Meet the artists and create your own images of home. Then stop by
Hood Games for some outdoor fun (see above)!
